Players will often surprise you when they choose to attempt the impossible. Often times they believe that any obstacle can be overcome if they try hard enough. Vrogdish has dramatically improved his Strength score and even obtained a bonus on his first attempt to break down the gate. However, the high DC of the task suggests that he has a very low probability to succeed. Fortunately, Vrogdish isn't very good at math and has a poor understanding of probability.
I'm not super happy with the quality of this comic; I sort of forgot about it until it was about due, and I'd been short on sleep when I threw it together. However, I'd also been spending some time working on another comic that should be out later this week, and I'm pretty pleased with the result. So it's really give and take here.
